If you haven’t seen the promo video for Seagate Wireless, in a word, it’s charming. We took a different approach to how we usually produce product videos and filmed it entirely using stop-motion animation.
If you know anything about animation, you know it’s a herculean feat. Projects like this can involve dozens of artists, designers, videographers, writers, actors (for voice over) and several fingers with an eye for detail to make every aspect move just right in order to bring each shot to life. We had a team of 10. (Insert round of applause here.)
“What is Seagate Wireless?”
Unveiled at CES, we took another step forward in expanding the wireless storage category and announced this 500GB device. Available in five colors (Red, White, Blue, Black and Green), Seagate Wireless holds thousands of songs or photos and hundreds of movies for you to stream – it’ll combine with your tablet or smartphone to become a dynamic duo of technology and entertainment.
Having such a small team handle a new, creative project makes the finished work even more impressive. The Consumer Electronics Show is the biggest tech event of the season that falls right after the holidays. If you work in an industry where you have stiff competition clamoring for the attention of press and consumers, you can get a sense of the kind of pressure this can create. Yet if this team felt any, it wasn’t visible. To give you an idea of the full project scope, check out these stats:
- 8 weeks of production from concept-to-completion
- 3 days of recording – 12-hours each!
- 200 hand-made props
- 10 people to pull it all together
Edited with Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects and ProTools, the team was able to trim it down to a single 1 minute 30 seconds long clip. How do you like them apples?
